Parents with children
From LCA2012
Can I bring my child with me to presentations?
Generally yes, within reason. For example, if you have a child who is of an appropriate age (say 10 and up), and you feel the presentation would be of interest, and educational value, then we welcome their attendance. Please be aware that you will need to accompany your child at all times, and are responsible for their welfare. Obviously if your child is younger, and would not be engaged by the presentations then we highly recommend alternatives such as childcare or the Partners Programme.
You will also need to note that linux.conf.au has in the past had issues with inappropriate material being displayed in some presentations. Although this is against our Code of Conduct, it is not feasible for conference organisers to review material beforehand. Please be aware that this is a risk that you run by bringing your child to a presentation.
What childcare options are available?
The conference organisers have arranged with the on-campus childcare providers at the University of Ballarat to make casual places available.

Do I need to bring a child car seat with me if I'm using the supplied busses?
The larger coaches have no facilities for child care seats. The mini-busses have 2 anchor points that could be used. The challenge for organisers is co-ordinating the mini-busses with parents. If you're going to be relying on the busses and have a child requiring a car seat, please contact us.
I am a nursing mother. Will there be a private space where I can breastfeed my child?
We're currently identifying the scope of requirements here - ie how many mothers will be breastfeeding at linux.conf.au and what their requirements are. If sufficient need exists we may need to provide a Parents' Room.
What accommodation do you recommend?
The on-campus accommodation at the University is generally unsuitable for families with children. For families we recommend the Mercure Ballarat or Sovereign Hill Comfort Inn. Please see our accommodation page for more information: http://linux.conf.au/register/accommodation
Can my child attend the Partners Programme?
Yes, provided your child(ren) is/are accompanied by your partner.
I'd like to liaise with other parents. Is there a mailing list?
We're currently organising this.
